April 3rd, 1985 was the last day of the old KAAY and were closing in on the 30th anniv. of that occasion. It is a day I remember very well. The last age group that remembers the old KAAY is maybe a few in their late 30's, most definitely people in their early to mid 40's. I am in that age group. My first experience with KAAY was around 1980 when Ray and Ram was on. Then Dick Price and Coyote Kincaid around 82-83. I tried to stay up and listen to the last hour with Clyde Clifford, but fell asleep about 20 minutes in. Woke up a few hours later to turn off the radio and there was nothing but static.
Then in the mid 2000's found out about a program called Radio Yesterday which was a weekly weekend program that played the music and commercials of old KAAY. It was great to hear the way the station once was again. Thats what led to me wanting the old KAAY back full time. Had the privilege of celebrating the 50th anniv. of KAAY @ The Oyster Bar last fall as well.
